When I first discovered that I was pregnant, my husband and I were both so overjoyed, filled with excitement and love. The next emotion though, was a rush of anxiety realizing that I now needed to prepare for this new bundle of joy and I only had 9 months! Being a first timer, I had no idea where to begin! I went online but was drowned with so much information that I felt lost.
When I started looking into baby registries, I didn’t know which one was the best. I signed up for a bunch of them, but really didn’t dive into the benefits and differences offered with each. Also, never being a Mother before, I wasn’t clear what would be considered essential and non-essential items to ask for (I made the mistake of asking for every size nipple out there, instead of major things I needed). So, I wanted to dedicate this blog to guide you through 10 of the top essential items that I believe you need to add to your registry!
I also wanted to talk briefly about the benefits of not just having a store registry, but also an online Amazon Baby Registry as well! At first, when looking for registries, I didn’t even think about Amazon! In fact, it wasn’t until one of my good friends told me about the benefits that she received signing up for an Amazon Baby Registry that I started to research what it could do for me.
Shop Amazon – Create an Amazon Baby Registry
First, it is super easy to add and take away anything from the registry! If you can be a shopper on Amazon, then you can be a “Registry Queen” on Amazon. If you are already an Amazon Prime Member, you are also eligible for things like a “Welcome” Box, free parenting eBooks, discounts and more; it’s the perfect resource when you need to provide a catalog and shopping options for friends and family that may live far away. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
Top 10 Things that you NEED on your Baby Registry
Car Seat & Stroller
This is an obvious one, but have you gone out there and seen how many there are? We ended up choosing the Chicco brands when it came to our car seat and stroller. So far, we love them both and were lucky enough to receive a Chicco lightweight stroller during our Baby Shower!
Chicco Cortina CX Travel System, Iron
I didn’t realize how important a swing is until our baby arrived. Donovan LOVES his swing and it comes in handy when I want to clean, cook or update my blog! I set him up facing me so he can watch and interact with me!
Fisher-Price Sweet Snugapuppy Dreams Cradle ‘n Swing, White Pack-and-Play
For all you Mama’s out there that live in a two or three-story home like me, you will want a Pack-and-Play! They are perfect to have in a separate room such as a living room or den. You will want a place to set your baby down to take a nap or change! We have a Graco Pack-and-Play and the reason why I love it is because it is not an eye sore in my house. We have a dark gray and blue one, and it fits in nicely with the color scheme and décor of our house.
Graco Pack ‘n Play Playard with Change ‘n Carry Portable Changing Pad, ManorCar Seat Canopy
Okay, transparently, I totally judged this product when I first saw it. I kept it in my diaper bag (in the packaging) and kept forgetting about it. Then, when my husband and I were on a walk and the sun kept getting in Donovan’s eyes, I remembered it and whipped it out! Now we use it all the time!
Breastfeeding Cover – Nursing Cover scarf – Infant Car Seat Canopy, Shopping Cart, Stroller, Carseat Covers for Girls and Boys – Hearts – LoveBassinet
This one’s obvious! Just make sure you pick a good one and read all the reviews. This can be the difference between you sleeping and not!
Graco Dream Suite Bassinet, MasonDiapers
Diapers are such a small thing but such a BIG need. They are affordable as a single gift for many and save the new parents the higher costs of buying multiple at the beginning. A friend of mine received so many for her 3rd child that she didn’t need to buy a single a diaper for seven months!
The Honest Company – Eco-Friendly and Premium Disposable Diapers – Giraffe, Newborn Size (<10lbs.) 40 Ct.Crib
I suggest adding this to your registry, because you never know who might bless you with one!
DaVinci Jayden 4-in-1 Convertible Crib, White
We received a changing table that attached to a dresser. It truly is such a help with not only changing our baby, but for our backs as well. Changing the baby on the bed, or the floor really does a number on your back! Definitely add one of these to your registry!
Costzon Baby Changing Table Infant Diaper Nursery Station w/6 Basket Storage Drawers (White)
Baby Bathtub
You will definitely need a baby bathtub, especially one with an insert for an infant.
The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn To Toddler Tub, Blue
Sensory Gym
The one that we received was the Baby Sensory Gym! Donovan loves it and it is really building his exercise development skills, mentally and physically.
Skip Hop Baby Treetop Friends Activity Gym/Playmat, Multi
Again, these items and recommendations are just based on my opinion and experience, but I definitely think you need these items before your baby arrives. I know that some of you may be filled with anxiety and be overwhelmed like I was, and I wish I had some guidance at the beginning as I mentioned. My hope is that I can provide you a roadmap to the essentials based on my experience and needs as a new Mom. I hope this has helped and congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy!
